Ujvall

You solved it yourself.

The child writes. Ujvall only asks.
Two school children walk through tall grass on their way to school.

Millions of children sit in school
but do not learn the basics.

7 in 10

ten-year-olds in low- and middle-income countries cannot read and understand a simple text.

World Bank, UNESCO and UNICEF call this learning poverty.

45.8%

of rural Class 8 students in India can do a simple division sum. Fewer than half.

Most AI tutors need fast internet and a new device.
The children who need help most have neither.

Ujvall runs on an ordinary computer, with no internet, and helps a child think, not copy.

A young volunteer shows a group of girls something on a desktop computer while a staff member watches.

Works offline

Install it once. After that it needs no internet.

Runs on basic computers

A refurbished computer with 8 GB of memory is enough. No graphics card.

Guides, never tells

It gives a hint or a question first. The child always does the last step.

How a session works

  1. 1

    LC-0417

The child signs in with a learner code. Never a name.

  2. 2

    40 min

The child practises maths for 40 minutes at a centre computer.

  3. 3

    I tried 19 ÷ 3…

When stuck, the child opens Ujvall and types what they tried.

  4. 4

A named adult supervisor is always in the room.

How we keep it safe

Our rules, before any child uses Ujvall.

School children crowd around a computer as a teacher works at the keyboard.
  • Permission from the centre, consent from parents, and agreement from the child.
  • No names or personal details. Learner codes only. Data stays on the computer.
  • The tutor must answer about 90% of 50 test questions the right way, by guiding, not by handing out answers, before children see it.
  • If it makes too many mistakes, we pause it and fix it.
  • Results are reported for groups, never for one child.

Where we are

  1. Now

Working with 20 children at a children's home in Bengaluru.

  2. Next

    A children's programme of over 200 children.

  3. Then

    Principals and organisations across Bengaluru.

Why it matters

What lasts is a method others can repeat: the safety rules, the tutor instructions, the quality check and the cost sheet.

Another centre changes only the language, the syllabus and the prices.
